I found this old rotary phone in my parent's attic (southern Indiana) after they passed. It was made by the North Electric MFG Company in Galion, Ohio as is stamped on the bottom plate of the phone. It's very heavy. I'd love to know more about the potential history of this phone!!

Your North Electric model 6H6 Galion deskset was manufactured during the 1940's. North Electric Company was founded in 1886 and incorporated in 1889 in Cleveland, OH. In 1918 after having acquired Telephone Improvement Company, they moved to Galion, OH and changed there name to North Electric Manufacturing Company. in 1951 North Electric was acquired by L.M Ericsson of Sweden. North became the American manufacture of the Ericsson "Ericofon". in 1967 North Electric was acquired by the third largest independent Telephone Company, United Utilities Corp.

THANK YOU!!! What a wonderful background...can I ask, where did you get all of that information?!!! I plan to print it out and just have it on a card with the phone...that way, when the kids end up with my "stuff" they'll have some background :)

There are several books on the market that deal with telephone manufactures one is called Telephones Antique to Modern by Kate E Dooner, (1995) another is 100 years of the Bell Telephones by Richard Mountjoy (2005) both are published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd. Atglen, PA. Plus my telephone collecting knowledge since 1965.
