I bought this bracelet recently. I had a idea that it was made by Artificer Guild, I sent a email to the Goldsmith Library in London with photos of this bracelet. They have the archives of the design drawings of the Artificer Guild. They were very helpful, and showed the photos to a researcher who is a specialists in jewellery by Artificer Guild, unfortunely the researcher didnt recognise the design. They have suggested that I visit the library and go through the designs as they run into to hundreds. I wonder if anybody has any ideas.
    Many thanks for looking

Hi Jean, it is a lovely bracelet, and a great score, congratulations. It has a number of strong characteristics of the Artificers' Guild, I'll do some research and come back to you.

Best wishes for the New Year!

Hi Dan, I wish you all the best on your research, it can drive you crazy, but when you find out about your items you get a real buzz. I hope I can solve this one of mine, so fingers crossed. :-)

      Hi Paul,
I was looking at some of John Paul Coopers work. The leaf work of his work is very similar, and he used Rubies and Pearls in a very similar fashion. Unfortunately it does have a couple of gold leaves missing, but on the all its in good condition.
I shall send you a email soon, the Murrle Bennett bracelet has at last been repaired. Apparently it was a tricky job because the gold on the bracelet had began to disinigate, but it is now in tip top condition. I haven't got the bracelet at the moment, I sent it to a friend who is coming in Feb. I'm also waiting for the assay office in Birmingham on the stone, fingers cross on that one.

All the best to you and your family Paul for the New Year, and everyone else on CW

Hi Jean, this is a cracker and I think Artificers Guild is a solid attribution. I just bought a AG pendant. I'll post it when I get a mo.

Hi Jewels1900, I've just been looking at your necklace it's a beauty. I may make a trip to Goldsmiths when I'm next in London. Thanks for your information, at least it's a nice finish to my horrible 2015. :-)

Hi jewels1900, I was wondering if this could be a piece by John Paul Cooper who did work for Artificer Guild.
    12. Jewels1900 Jewels1900, 6 years ago
Hi Jean, the leaf work and the groupings of the leaf work are very AG. There are also other indicators that it's AG. I'll be interested to see what Paul comes up with.

I've got a few pieces for comparison (you know I love AG), I'll try & dig them out over the next few days. If you're off to the Goldsmith's hall, I might have to ask you to have a sticky beak for a few items I have. I have a brooch and a necklace, in particular, that I believe they have the designs for.

I'd be super-duper happy to have this in my collection.

Regarding the designer, there were a number of really great designers and many makers that were members of the Guild. Most attributions are made to Spencer, whether this is the case or not, I'm not sure. But this design does point to Spencer.

I might be naive, but I would have thought that the expert would have picked up on it being Artificer Guild. I know there are hundreds of designs, the good thing is the head of the library didn't say I was wasting their and my time, so I shall make a appointment and I'll see what happens. Jewels1900 I'll be more than happy if you send photos of your pieces, and I'll try and get a verification. You can also email them with photos.

      Oh my! Beautiful indeed!

Who knows what an expert does & doesn't know. They may be very familiar with the collection they curate but maybe not in Arts & Crafts jewellery in general. They might also have policies and/or limits about what they can confirm or not.

I'm going to upload some pieces from my collection for you to have a look at. In particular you'll be interested in the moonstone pendant which is undoubtably AG & one of the garnet brooches which has gold & silver work.
