My first 2016 purchase is this wonderful 1960's green "end of day" bakelite clamp bracelet watch from Vendome. 1"x1.5". 17 jewels - wind up - Works! - which for me is was what sold it. I love and wear windup watches. This one had to work and since this was an online purchase I was nervous. The base metal was originally gold but has worn away. That's part of the reason I got this for $31. I don't sell so what the heck. I'm so thrilled to have this. Matches exactly w/4 bangles and hoop earrings I've posted awhile back.

Thanks friends for enjoying my plastic obsession. Comments welcome.

Thanks Elisabeth - you saw this first when I was a little nervous buying it but turned out to be completely right. It is pretty darn great.

Very Nice....great piece, we need to put a duck on the dial...just kidding, very cool :-)

Thanks mike - yes, your Vendome brooch is really great - and especially related to Mad Men.

Thanks Kerry for your comment, did they combine bakelite with the Quack? Probably did way back in the 30's? But I have a feeling Donald didn't need anything fancy around his dial.

I love it! I have never seen a watch like this. I would have bought it too because of the fact that it looks great and works!

Hi Gudrun - thank you for loving this. It came from Canada! I've seen this before in the yellow, brwn,bk,white "Mississippi mud" end of day but the green is my favorite of course!

Hi Elisabeth - thanks again for your support! :)

Thanks Trey - Yes the hunt has a good start! I think I have enough green though. Must focus on red and black.

My mother-in-law bought me a brand new $400 SEIKO QUARTZ wrist watch in 1978. Some years later, in 2000, my wife bought me another brand new SEIKO QUARTZ wrist watch, this one for $500. I still have both watches, but I wear my plain, old TIMEX mechanical wind-up wrist watch I bought new in 1970 for something like $10. Still looks as new as the day I bought it, and still runs like a charm. BUT NO COMPARISION TO YOUR VENDOME WRIST WATCH! Boy, you've got a beauty there! :)
    19. valentino97 valentino97, 5 years ago
What a nice comment NevadaBlades! I'm sure your Seikos are very nice. Something about winding up a watch - taking charge of time maybe? LOL. My preference too! The bummer about these old watches is once they wear out they are expensive to fix. Most jewelers laughed at me when I brought old wind-ups in. Then I went online and to fix them could be anywhere from $50-$100. I think Kerry knows how to fix these oldies. :) Mainly I was told they had to replace all the guts. I love this Vendome and thank you so much for enjoying it too. I'll post a bunch of silly 1970's Lucite watches for you when I round them up. :)
    20. NevadaBlades, 5 years ago
You're absolutely right ~ there is definitely "something" about winding a watch by hand, although I can't quite explain it sensibly. I have another older TIMEX wrist watch from the early 1960's and a WESTCLOX wrist watch from the mid 1950's that I keep as "back up" watches, which I got on eBay, but my favorite is the one I bought new in 1970. I'll be looking out for your "silly" Lucite watches! :)

      I just love this,...AGAIN !!!
    22. valentino97 valentino97, 5 years ago
First - thank you Nevada for agreeing about winding up a watch. For me it might be about control? Well, and basically that I love old watches.

Thank you AmatoorPikr for loving it Again!!! I haven't worn it much because I'm so afraid of hurting it....need to get over that don't I?

Thanks CW friends for loving this!
