This is Shou Xing, one of the three Chinese Star Gods. He represents the star Canopus and is the god of longevity. The symbol is one of the very many the Chinese use for longevity.
Thank you for the info. Any idea how to find when it was made?
Without provenance, wood is extremely difficult to date, especially from a photo. Given the patina that I can see I would say this piece is post WWII.
