The art work looks like it is painted on fine linen or silk. Both matts are beveled and look to be a fine type of linen also. The frames look like bamboo, gold and very good conditions. The glass is in excellent condition. The back has a brown type paper (no rips) wires, threaded and twisted through eyelets. There are two green felt pads on the bottom corners. Also a sticker in the lower right corner stating "jinx Gallery & Framing; 6513 N. Mesa; El Paso, TX 79912; Phone 584-1766 (odd to me there's no area code).
I can't find anything on the "Jinx Gallery & Framing" other than Texas Monthlys dating back to 1980 advertising shows; a couple of famed southwest artist work in the gallery, and a current obit, Meda Greene who was quite an impression 92 yr old gal in life; worked for Eleanor Roosevelt in the cultural department and sailed with a fleet of 150 naval vessels to Hawaii during WWII to work as a secretary. She married and ended up in El Paso in 1965; she was an artist. Her obit stated she worked for the gallery for a long time. area code was 915. Just a small gallery famous for selling the first Rudy Montoya Jr. paints while he was an art student at UTEP in El Paso. I do not believe they every sold any very expensive art.

The Jinx was an art gallery/gift shop and frame shop. Those were probably just framed there. It was in El Paso, Texas back in the 60's or maybe into the 70's.
And no, it was not real "high end". They featured mostly local art and crafts. They did more framing than anything else. I used to go there as a kid. My mother sold some items there.
They sold Rudy Montoya's art and also Jan Herring's art. Both became very popular in the southwest.

Just bought a pencil sketch today from a thrift shop in Phoenix that was framed by the Jinx Gallery.The title of the sketch is "Cockfight", showing a rooster in a feathered turmoil with a hen and 3 chicks walking away from him.
The sketch is signed A. Adshead, dated '78 and is 3/20.
Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks to janieDough for the response on my comment posted yesterday, 3-22-14 regarding the pencil etching I picked up that is signed A. Adshead.
I had previously googled the name and Amy Adshead came up. Makes sense as I read that she worked in the exhibit dept. of a Tucson museum.
