I was looking for a Valentine's present to me a few days ago. Fell in love with this red clip; a little nervous because the pictures weren't good but the seller gave me a better price and so... So Happy! I love this 2.75"x1.75 1930's-40's plastic lacquer applied to wood balls dress or jacket clip. It is perfect. One of the reasons I took a chance is I have another like it - multi-colored - "Christmas tree". They can get beat up since the lacquer is only a few mm thick.

Another plastic obsession. Hope you enjoy. Happy Vday early!

That's cute! I like the chasing on the back of the clip. Don't see that often.

I wish there was a mark - only that chasing that both have:

Wonderful pin Val...I can't believe the prices bakelite jewelry commands. A lady on Antiques Roadshow this week had her unsigned bracelet she paid I think three or five hundred for appraised for two to three thousand ! I've got to find some pieces for my collection. :)

Love the grapes shape and this bright red!
Goes well with the multicolor one :-)

Did they really apply bakelite onto wood? Didn t know this...does it really test as bakelite?

Thanks blade for the happy VDay greeting!

Thanks mike - I watched that episode too. It's a true story about the Philadelphia cuff in 1984 it sold for $250 - and as Antiques Roadshow commented the values have only increased for that style. Bakelite is rarely signed! Another famous auction were items from 1988 Andy Warhol estate. He had amazing pieces that sold for $$$ and set the bar for best examples.

Thanks Kyra - this is so pretty and I just LOVE IT.

Thanks Newtimes for questioning this. I am looking thru my research but - think this is a plastic other than bakelite. I'm not sure what it is!

Hello Val, thanks for the info. I think its some kind of laquer, melamine...whatever, its cool ;-)

Newtimes, I looked again online - Here's what I found: Unsigned and unknown origin...made in late 1920's-40's....could be an unsigned Miriam Haskell (doubt that) and is enamel paint on wood or plaster beads.

You know what it I like the most? The pattern on the metal clip. Isn't it beautiful?!
    16. valentino97 valentino97, 2 years ago
Gudrun - yes, agree I love the pattern on the metal clip, but you can see the peeling especially in picture 2? I also have this clip in a multi-colors. These come up often online for not too much money, pretty wonderful though.
