I'm trying to figure out if this cute tablecloth & napkin set belonged to my Grandmother or if it's something Aunt Judy picked up at St Vincent De Paul thrift store. She went to St's every night after work till she retired at 68. Judy gave the set to me in 2009 w/out any history. I just assumed it belonged to Grandma because she inherited Grandma's house and contents in 2002. It's time to let it go if it wasn't Grandma's. Any help or hint about the age of this tablecloth/napkin set would be a great clue. I'd like to keep it in the family if it was Grandma's.
Grandma & Grandpa married in 1931 and everybody they knew was poor. A fancy tablecloth & napkin set would have been a grand gift.
The box is black, white w/gold 18x12x1 1/4. Box is old and beat up so it's possible it's from the 30's. Contents inside are crisp, still stapled to cardboard. On the side of box is item number (1006 or I006), description and color (7 PC set 52x70, WHITE). The information was individually stamped on the box by hand. The box has the look and vibe of vintage Sears & Roebuck, Montgomery Ward, etc., mail order. The lid states, "HOSTESS Table Settings" "A Heavenly Creation". The script and vintage look has the same vibe as the mail order catalogs from that period. The 7 PC set consists of 6 napkins with (1) pastel butterfly embroidered applique sewn onto each napkin. The applique is not affixed to the napkins with stitching around the edges of the applique, it's only affixed to the napkins through the center of the butterfly and clumsily knotted. The 52x70 tablecloth is plain white cotton linen with white stitching along the edge and no butterflies. The linen is very sheer, almost see through.
There's so many clues but I don't know how to read the clues. Silver lining is I've been thinking of Aunt Judy and Grandma all afternoon. What a couple of characters!
This is the 3rd time contemplating what to do with this cute set. I meant to ask Judy about it for years then one day it was too late. Help D
