    This was a snap purchase in our local Sunday carboot. Arthur Sheldon Phillips was a renowned naval water colourist. This shipyard scene in own and ink is late work and shows a naval scene thought to be Newport Docks, South Wales, UK.
    His signature is at bottom right.
    35x44cm.

      Sure looks neat & clean. Not like any boatyards I have seen here in SXM.

      I suspect it is a naval dockyard, or more of a national port.

      More likely to be Scarborough where the boat was registered. One website claims he was an expert on the East Cost fleet...

      Newport (Gwent) boats would show the letters NT. Not sure an in-shore Scarborough trawler would have done the round-trip for maintenance so far from home.

      Maybe the seller was mistaken. It bears a Frodsham (Cheshire) dealer label, not that that means much.
