I've got a few of these old directories and find them fascinating. This one has very basic directions for using a telephone in it. I find the international rates the most interesting of all - extremely expensive for the time!

Who had that kind of money for overseas calls in 1935? Aside from celebs, that is....

The Trans-Atlantic Cable was one that couldn't be allowed to get tied up with petty calls.

thank you brunswick, Rick55, Efes, and SpiritBear! considering that average wages were something like $15 per week, $30 for the first minute was a very expensive luxury!

I like the old telephone directories from California. I have a 1909 Los Angeles City and County directory. It states they have 52, 257 telephones.

I was your neighbor 1 hour to the south, San Jose, CA, where, in the '50's and '60's, it was then called PACIFIC BELL, remember??? $7 a month for basic service with a free dial phone, either a desk model or a wall model. You've got a GREAT old phone book ~ LOVE old stuff like this. ; )

Love it. There is a lot information in old phone books.
I think the oldest one I have is 1952, from my home town in Ohio.

I remember our number in the 60's was 38m1.
