It's been a long time since I bought an oil lamp. Still looking for a railroad lamp. Almost found one at an antique store, but I wasn't gonna give $30 for it.

This is, I believe, just a barn lantern put out by Shapleigh Hardware Co. of St. Louis in the early 1900s. It has a hand-ground (top) glass globe and is solid and functional, albeit rusty.

I picked it up still "barn fresh" (it had just been brought in, and I looked it over and wanted it right there) where it was so dusty and dirty that one couldn't read all it said, and it stained all it touched. It look a lot of cleaning!

I used to want to collect these, but I never could find ones that were very old or under $25.

I'll likely look into doing it as a restoration project some time, as I still use oil/kerosene lamps in my room.

It should look nice once restored! What color are you thinking?

This appears to be a less common version (I was able to find 1 other rusty version then some similar ones), so I will likely copy (my mom works in the paint department of a major Home Improvement store) the colour of a similar original model of similar age from the same company.
Now to bring myself to initiate the project. LOL.

      Give me a year. LOL.

I'll need to sand it, maybe Bondo around the welds to make them smooth, prime it and paint it for sure. I'm accustomed to wood, not metal, so this should be interesting. And there is one dent that I need to work on.
