Bought this at a yard sale some years ago, was told it was a torpedo shell, it's supposed to be artwork I think, the second picture is a marking of some sort, can't identify it, HELP, what is it, I think it's copper

Interesting item-- is the bottom a solid piece? Some additional photos of the top/ bottom showing details may be helpful.

Open ended-- doesn't look like an artillery shell. Also looks way too long to be an arty shell-- what is the height?
Not sure what the piece is from, so I wouldn't call it trench art. I am a trench art collector.

One of your measurements is off.
Are you sure that the 10" is a DIAMETER and not a CIRCUMFERENCE?
If it is a diameter, the overall length would have to be much more.

My aunt used to work for a facility in Berlin that de-armed bombs and other live ammunition from WWII. I remember seeing on her shelves vases made out of empty shells and always found this scary and strange, but certainly interesting.
