    Could this be anything other than Mother of Pearl? There's squares that have alot of brown and black streaks that just don't look right.

      Oh! At first glance at the main page, I thought it was a print!

      The pieces must be made from cut nacreous convex shells with outer shell remains giving the brown parts :-)

      This give a very interesting pattern!
