At the Salvo's today I saw these salt and peppers languishing on a shelf. The design of the two different groups was interesting .... linked by the graphics .... the whole lot was just $3 so I had to find out about them.
At home I saw that the design comes from the Sixties ..... one of a series that Beswick called 'Trendsetter'. There were four separate designs in this range : Apollo, Lunar, Metric and Verona.
These pieces are from the Metric range.
Metric was one of the modernist designs of Harry Sales who worked at Beswick from 1961 until 1986.
In 1961 Harry Sales left E Brain & Co and started to work at the Beswick factory. He became the design manager there and later worked at Royal Doulton, creating a new Bunnykins range. He did some figures for Beswick too that are modernist classics.
