Found this in a box from an auction today....am curious what is the significance of the number under the name? Its marked sterling on the back and the clasp indicates it has some age on it.thanks for the help.

It is a WW2 era Identification bracelet.

Service members often wore these in addition to dogtags. I own some that are inscribed on the back with the information of the loved one who purchased it for the soldier.

Your guy was an 18 year old Private from Illinois and he was in the Army Air Corps. His full enlistment record:

Forgot to include-- the # is his service number and it makes research pretty easy.
