A recent impulse buy is this beautiful 9ct yellow gold rim set Victorian heart shaped faceted amethyst and seed pearl pendant.
It has a ribbon of seed pearls on the top of the heart and is hallmarked for 9ct gold and makers mark.

Updated post-I have added an antique bow and swivel clip & had the jeweller solder a jump ring on the bow so it sits right on the akoya pearl necklace.

This is beautiful.... is the maker's mark T&S? If so it could be Taylor & Sharp Hobart 1895 - post ww2..... I have a gold pearl set heart with the T&S mark on it..... I have only just joined this wonderful site so will post some pictures hopefully when I work out how to do it lol.

Hello Tassiedevil,Yes the initials are T&S how wonderful it would be to discover this is an Australian piece!

A very stylish piece of jewelry. Here is an article that may help to identify the origins of any other period jewelry pieces in your collection:

Thanks Efesgirl:)I did find that link earlier as I wanted to know how America marked their gold but could not find any info on the amethyst pendant.

Excellent craftsmanship! Look at image 3 (higher magnification) the setting of the pearls. I have already commented it elsewhere. Very sharp, chisel like instrument is used and gold surface close to the pearl is cut to produce a notch or ``prong`` that slightly overrides the pearl circumference. Four notches for each pearl. That`s seldom done today. They simply glue pearls wit resin glue or whatever.

Thank-you IVAN49:)Is the technique known as grain setting ? I find the process of jewellery making very interesting.
