The badges are from the 1930's through the early70's. Police, fire police and fire department badges. Pretty run of the mill badges except one. They were all issued to my father in law. Top row last badge to the right is the badge he was wearing in Lakehurst, NJ as he was fighting the fire the night the Hindenburg crashed. I wonder how many such badges still exist? For you doubting Thomas's the makers mark on back is consistent with the 1930's and fire department records are also. I thought I would post it for it's historical value.

That is a great group of badges all worn by the same man with a direct connection to the Hindenburg disaster! What would be fantastic is if you have any documents and photo's of him in uniform wearing a badge.

I have the pictures of him wearing the police badges as well as a painting done of him. He was my father in law and a great guy. His wife taught school for 40 years in NJ until they retired to Florida. I now live alone in their house and am just reliving old memories.

Nice collection and background information; particularly with respect to Zeppelin Hindenburg.

      Thank you Gundalow.

Militarist I do indeed have photos and other documentation. After my wife passed away I began the task of sorting stuff out. There are boxes of stuff going back three generations to the mid 1800's. Everything from silver and antique China to a day by day diary for WWII that starts and ends at Fort Dix, NJ and covers 4 years in the Pacific theater of war. I still have boxes and boxes that have been packed away since before I was born ( I am just shy of 70 ).
