Last week, I previewed an auction and came across a slag glass lamp shade that I had to have. The next day when I went to attend the auction to bid, I found the shade had been cracked and damage. Someone must has dropped it. I was really dumb-founded. Determined as I was to find something, because I did not want to go home empty handed, I came across this brooch.
The brooch is not marked, but did test positive for silver. The little stones are paste, and the center medallion that looks like abalone is intaglio glass, I do believe. Also, I do think this was produced before 1900.
I love antique jewelry, but don't have much of a clue to know what is what. I buy what I like and worry about the rest later... As you will see the brooch has a few forgiving flaws, but is still a pretty piece for what it is.
Any help or comments is appreciated!
