Because I am the crazy bird lady in my neighborhood (I only have 2 little ones though) when I saw this tin on ebay I had to have it!
9"x7"x2" English on sides says "Ashok Series Love Birds Container made by Bombay Tinprinters" Yes, it was shipped from India but I got it before a simple pkg. sent from West Virginia ordered on the same day. LOL.
I have tried to get Cumilous Cloud to earn his keep by pulling a little cart...but he definitely has a mind (birdbrain) of his own.
Does anyone know what the tin originally held or what it says? Thanks!
Charming tin box! Love your Cumi, isn't he a she? (I thought males have blue wax above the beak).
Very clever birdie, why work when your meal is served gratis ;-D
Well....Cumi isn't aggressive, has always been very sweet to me and got along well w/my other blue beak sweetie, but they never mated. Do 2 females get along in the bird world? I guess they could but my past females had a definite mean streak. The first Valentino I believed to be a male for 8 yrs. Then I fostered 4 abandoned parakeets - in their cage - and Val tried to kill them. She even undid the twisty-ties on the doors! I had to put zip ties and then found them a home immediately. And, she had that blue beak! So - now aren't you sorry you asked? LOL, I mostly go with their behavior.
I love this tin box! Cumi is smart and more attentive now she's alone, but Valentino used to perform. Her favorite thing was to pull every business card off the neighborhood video store counter and drop it over the edge - watched it, then went back for the next one. That trick got a lot of laughs.
Thanks everyone for your loves: Jean, Phil, Thomas, BB2, Aura, Kyra, Gudrun, Mike, markika, Nevada, Kevin, Nice, Ho2, Ken and Gargoyle!
Awww, Valentino was a show performer!
I had 2 inseparable love birds, bought as a couple, but after they mated, they both laid eggs... 2 ladies!!!
Yes, certain birds have to be together to be happy and are doing what they do to keep the species going? Only to find out not possible. But they still want to be a pair. That's a nice thought on friendship. (yikes, friendship in a cage?)
Valentino was my first, so special and I thought every bird would be as fun. Nope.
So true! My Kikies were out of their cage most of time, but locked in with a safety pin at the door when nobody in the room to prevent them from eating the lamp wires!
When we introduced a male, they chased the poor thing, we had to give him back :/
Poor guy, he was the 3rd wheel? I love birds because it looks like they are so easy and sweet but turn your back on them, their nature surprises you - will eat lamp wire, chew on paper or open library book (LOL) if left in their favorite spot and screech as loud as they can during an important conference call (yes, proven) My 2 ate thru a few of my nice cotton-strand necklaces on my dresser's tree display. THAT was a rude surprise, and now - duh - not allowed in the bedroom. My fault, I let them have the run of the apt. They pick favorite places and think it's okay to take over....so fun to watch when it isn't destructive!
I am sure when you post CC's photo, a lot of people are squeeling in delight. The tin just makes it all worthwhile, superb !~

The tin is wonderful. Cumilous Cloud is adorable! The tin looks as if it was maybe a sweets tin, and I believe the script is Hindi.
Thanks betweenthelens!! Yes, probably a sweets tin. I bought it from mgoyal, a very nice seller, but not much English...I think I will hit the mystery solved. Cumi is the sweetest little friend, thanks for loving him.
What a little doll Cumilous Cloud was, and he could definitely have posed for the cart- pulling birdie!
Thanks Jenni - he was model beautiful!
