    katherines…
    (247 items)

So Karen's comment in another thread "(for small dollars but bigger than Bonnie prices)" tickled me, lol. I think many of us who follow Bonnie's threads are often left admiring her eye for hidden treasures, or in my case sulking, lol, when she tells us about her incredible bargain buys. What we pay for something vs what it's worth can be a fun game because it challenges us as collectors. Sometimes when I find an item selling for a low price that I know is valuable I still can't resist driving a hard bargain with the seller just to add to that paid for::worth ratio. 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, I have acquired a number of examples that would meet the Bonnie challenge. Not counting free things, I think the best I ever did was the set of jewels in the photos above. I found these three pieces in a little white box in a yard sale and dithered about it, so much so that I put the box back down on the table and another woman picked it up and asked the price; the woman who was selling it just shrugged and asked for an offer, the other woman changed her mind and put it down. I took the box again and offered the woman $25 (and I only offered that much because she was a friend of my grandmother's), which she accepted. I didn't know what the pieces were except that they were pretty and unusual; I never wore any of it, in fact the box went into a drawer and rarely came out, just to admire and put away again. It wasn't until a year or two ago that I looked closely at the pieces and found through research that these were DeLizza & Elster pieces, book value around $1000.00. As Bonnie would say, Bahahahaha! lol :)) Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the love, brunswick, and nutsabotas6. :)

Awwww, Thomas, what a sweet thing to say. *blushing*

Ken, thanks, it was such a surprise to find out what I had, glad I took that $25 plunge, lol! :)

The two of you must have gotten some good bargains in your time. Care to share your best buys in a thread? :)

Oh! I remember now what else got me thinking about bargain hunter finds, this thread crossed my FB wall. Guess none of us will ever beat these deals:

I'm still looking, too, Ken! I hope the best for you, and all our friends here on CW! :)

Jammy bugger! I mean that nicely of course.

I would imagine these would look gorgeous on you, so wear them and smirk lots!

I'm like Ken, yet to have the great find. I only ever bargained once and got $3 off a Danish brooch. It wasn't worth my building up the courage or the angst I felt afterward.
I have made some good buys I admit but good buys don't often equate to good sells I've found!

Just lovely Katherine :)...I've not been finding much in the jewelry department myself lately, but I've had my share of bargains in the past. :)

Thanks for the love, TassieDevil, Kerry140D, NevadaBlades, mikelv85, vetraio50, aura, kivatinitz, MyFavoriteTreasures, valentino97, and Efesgirl. :)

ROFL, thanks Karen, for making me laugh, and for sharing your story. You know, I have to agree with you, bargaining is stressful, in at least one case I felt guilty about it, maybe it's a syndrome we haven't named yet, lol. You are also correct that a good buy doesn't mean a good sale, but I try to be satisfied if I get at least twice what I paid for something. More is better though, lol. :)

Thanks for the compliment, Mike, and yes, you have had some very nice goodies to show on here for your efforts in the past, let's hope for better times ahead. :)

Glad you liked this thread, kivatinitz, thanks! :)

Thanks, valentino, glad you love them and the story. :)

Bonnie, thanks, you inspired Karen, and she inspired me! I got one or two more I may share ... :)
