A friend found this painting at a thrift store in San Diego awhile back (wow, maybe he DID pay .69 for it). He told me these watercolor guache paintings were popular tourist items - and Baja, Mexico - specifically Tijuana is San Diego's neighbor, so I think it came from there. She is a saucy dancer - painted beautifully by Vito. My guess from her look and the "bamboo" wood frame is made in the 1940's. Matted in 9x11 frame. Excuse glare in pic 2 please.

SamO's painting reminded me to post this.

So cute! I don't think it's Mexican, though?

I suppose she could be a dancer from Brazil or Cuba!!

The bamboo frame and general look of the model suggests Hawaii to me. :)

Hmm....interesting comment Katherine - it isn't a bamboo frame, but wood carved -notched to look like bamboo which was popular in the 40's. Her ruffled skirt says Hola Hermanos! to me. I don't know but I love your comments and will keep looking to see if I can ID Vito - LOL. I don't want to take the back off but I might to see if there's more info and will let you know. Thank you!

Brazil - Portuguese - I always forget that: Her ruffled skirt says Oi Homem!

Thanks Caper - it is a frame of the era - Tiki and other exotic moods.

Thanks Nevada - she is a beauty, glad you agree.

Thanks all for loves and like: Geode, Ken, Phil, Kevin, Mike and Karen.

Thanks friends for your comments and loves- I guess I can't retire on this lovely piece or artwork. I keep hoping something in my hoard will lead to early retirement.... I'll let you know when that happens.

      Kitchy! Love her!

      Ho2cultcha - Is she a gandy dancer?

BB2 - ha ha ha - I didn't know what Argentinian boobs looked like!

Thanks Celiene - yes this is a kitchy tourist item, but it is painting not a print so it's the best part of 1940's kitsch....:-)

Olebodie! I only saw her as a dancer with a ruffled skirt...but now I can't see it any other way. LOL and I agree with your warped mind!

Share - pretty funny now that I look again! I love her regardless! XOXO

You don't have to apologize olebodie! When I posted this dancing gal I thought I was going to retire! Darn it, not the case. I display this proudly in my humble abode.

I am a merchandiser to department stores for Fruit of the Loom and Vanity Fair Lingerie! So naturally this dancer is beautiful to me.
