    4 in by 12 in metal Hawthorn Mellody Thermometer. For 54 years, Hawthorn Mellody Dairy put milk and cheese in the ice boxes and on the dinner tables of the Midwest.

    In February 1992 the dairy died. It was an ugly death, and its effects on the lives of people around at the end are still being felt.
