    This was found in a box full of old planes, hand drills, and "stuff" recently hauled out of Grandpa's barn/work shop. I have no idea what it is. All metal, no identifying marks anywhere. 11" long. Basket is 3 1/2" across.

      It looks like a soap holder. Before chore-specific cleaners were developed everyday soap was used for all cleaning chores. A piece of soap was put in the basket and swished around in a tub of hot water to make soapy water for washing stuff.

      Agree with soap holder! Had 2 of these......ended up selling one to the museum here so they could show and explain it to children's school groups!
