California issued porcelain over metal licence plates from 1914 to 1919. From 1920 the DMV started issuing painted metal plates. California rotated there license plates every year from black license plated with yellow number, to yellow plates with black numbers, but in 1939 issued a blue plate with yellow numbers for the California Worlds Fair.

So I have been trying to help my grandfather clear out his father's large estate of colections. Your picture of the white CA sheriff's lisence is the only one I have been able to find. Brandi, I added a pair of 1919 California license plates and they are on Ebay with a starting price of $300.00. They are in very nice shape. condition has alot to do with the pricing.
