    Bought this at an auction last year...
    Refinished the exterior....interior is papered (original?)
    The lock is fake....I'm thinking that maybe leather straps were used originally to keep it shut? You can symmetrical holes on both sides of the front...

      Beautiful restoration on this 6 brass banded Jenny Lind trunk. You would be correct about the leather straps on each side. But, most of these did have a lock with a decorative brass plate, like yours, over the lock. Many of these trunks were also covered in nicely tooled leather. These trunks date from the 1850's thru the late 1800's. You did a wonderful job on this one!!
