Purchased by friend's mother sometime in 1950's or 1960's in Mainland China. There are also cups and smaller plates and bowls. On the underside all it says is "Made in China" in red lettering.

These were made as export pieces.

      "Made in China"
From 1919 "CHINA" was to be replaced by "Made in China" on all Chinese export to the US. Even if "CHINA" continued to be used for a long time, we can still assume that no marks with the full text "Made in China" is from before 1919 and more likely to be from the second WW or later.

Indeed I do assume that these were purchased around the same time that they were actually made.
