Still trying to get photos. Bear with me. I am having a really hard time with my cameras, and too my poor sight. THESE ARE WONDERFUL!!
Too bad I can only get 1 enlargement.(maybe I did get a 2nd one on!!) Hopefully! Boy is standing on tiptoes over his bookend peering a his sister. His stance is far from the book and his figure is separated from anything .
Nothing enlarges for me on Listia--I put them on eBay just now--No problem. They are beautifully done They have some gilt touches, very aged and hardly seen.
SO SWEET!! They are heavy naturally as they are bookends. and I don't know made of what? They are painted and old. Not wood, They have replaced green felt on the bottoms and I don't want to try to remove it. Green with Gold ( tarnished) Chinese Figures in the boy's jacket, and cuffs, Girl's dark maroon jacket withl tarnished gold figures and cuffs were once gold I believe as well, and well as cuffs of pants--Her book has gold chinese figures, not an english title to read. I will try for better photos when rain stops here--it is a dark day. These could be from any decade of 20th C. They are beautifully done--look at the faces!!

I'm looking at your photos now - you are right, the photos are much too dark and also somewhat blurry. Natural light is best. I was going to try an Image search but it's not possible with those photos. There are other versions of these types of bookends online>

GREAT! THANKS! I was thrilled to see the value. I put them on for half that on eBay. My photos seem better on eBay. I have another camera, but the view finder is broken so when I get the batteries I will just have to
      point & shoot"
