This beautiful set belonged to my grandmother. I believe she acquired it sometime in the early part of the 20th century (she was born around 1900) when her husband travelled overseas with the US Army. I don't know whether it has been used much at all - it is in very good condition - I remember it mostly as being on display in my mother's house. I know very little about these cups and saucers and would love to know if anyone is familiar with this pattern or its history.

Those are Japanese Satsuma Porcelain (probably Meiji 1868-1912), not Chinese.

They depict Geisha, a tea house & Mt. Fuji. Holy men are in the center of the cup. Is every plate the same images? The center one looks different. How many in total? Are all the cups the same?

Those are super high quality and superb! That is all I know. You can look up the mark on Gotheborg. There is also an identification group on Facebook.

Is there a teapot, too? Creamer & Sugar?

Yes, there is a teapot, creamer & sugar - I will try to add the photograph. Eleven of the 12 cups and saucers in the set are the same. According to a note I found, my grandmother broke one cup and saucer and had to order a new one. It was a bit different - with a lot more pink - but, as you can see, it fits in with the set. The note (written by my Mother a few years ago) also said she bought the set between 1926 and 1929 in Panama (where they were stationed at the time). She also said the set was ordered special from China - but she may not have known this for sure. She liked the said because the figures were females.

It's all gorgeous! I'm not a fan of Oriental things, but this set is just wonderful. Grandma had a great eye for beautiful porcelain.

Thank you Celine for solving this mystery. I added a photo of the teapot, creamer, and sugar - although not a great photo. My Mother's not also said that her mother was pleased with the set because it depicted the females - she thought this was unusual.

      Thanks again!
