This is a beautiful hand painted vase with Coralene decoration from Loetz during the Victorian era. Ground colour is opal white with a shaded, russet brown colour. Interior is glossy and the exterior is satin finish. Rim shape has the "M" crimp. Polished pontil and is signed, I/417. The opal white colour does react under a UV light.

Art work depicts purple florals with a colourful butterfly in flight. The butterfly and purple flowers are decorated with tiny glass beads also known as Coralene. The butterfly has colours of orange, red, yellow and black. Flowers have colours of purple, white and yellow. There is also hand painted, white enameled stems with gold gilt leaves.

This shape was also produced by Harrach in a Mother of Pearl decor.

    Rim is 3-1/4" diameter.
    Base is 2-1/2" diameter.
    5-1/4" wide, at best

Do you have a book reference you can post for this being Loetz? I have the same blank in Mother of Pearl that is very reminiscent of Stevens & William's Pompeian Swirl, and some have insisted is Harrach.

20thC: Bohemian glasshouses have been known to produced same or similar designs. The DEK signature on the vase confirms the Loetz attribution. As far as the Harrach attribution, according to Kai Hasselbach's research, the MOP shape is exhibited at the Harrach Glass Museum in Nový Sv?t, as stated at http://www.loetz.com/identifying-loetz-glass/early-loetz which you will be able to review the Harrach "Pompeian Swirl" vase and learn more about early Loetz production.

Thanks, so much Worthit2 for the compliment. Much appreciated.
