i knew these weren't the run-of-the-mill abalones when i picked one up yesterday. they are very heavy compared to my others. i have around 30 of them at the nursery, but these are by far the best. they are much larger than usual and really top quality. i just don't see them like this anymore. i just realized that i only have photos of one of them, and the other is even better. will get some pics later.

    where's the 'seashell' category?

You may have already been there, but if you go to Point Lobos State Park near Carmel, California, there's one beach in particular in the Reserve that's covered with all sorts of seashells. The last time we were there, in the late '80s, the shells were free for the taking.

I post mine in animals no subcategory. Have you tried the sea shell shop in Morro Bay? Could be a bit of a drive I know.

It's near impossible to find these substantial abalone shells anymore.

Post their size, Ho2Culthca. I have a couple that are 6 x 10 inches! I don't think people outside CA know how big they actually can get!

You can make a LOT of jewelry out of the old school shells!

I love this Ho2! I have a thing about shells of this kind with their organic forms and iridescence... Beautiful!

I find these all the time on the beach, but not quite as big as yours probably..they are beautiful!..:-)
