Let me braid his hair in my dreams an stuff. He a Chyenne (but he doesn't look at all shy) named Red Sleeve, also called Panther--He was an excellent shot. 1880s photo. I'll just leave him here in the CW TEEPEE.

I read where the name Cheyenne was given them by the French from "chien", meaning dog. Seems they raised & ate dog when times were lean.

Don't rain on our parade with that nasty image.. There is a movie "The Last Of The Dog Men" Ancient tribe ( could have been escaping Cheyenne, been in hiding for "forever" is being searched for in the NW and were called the "Dog-Men"probably because when running and desperate that was their food--
Movie is supposed to be based on fact. Stars Tom Berrange as a trapper employed to FIND THEM IF POSSIBLE and Barbara Hershey a historian--They get kidnapped by the the (thought) extinct tribe and with their arrow-wounds the trappers dog who charged the Dog Men The dog--not ate, cured and welcomed. --A wonderful movie--You must see it. In VHS, obscure and collectible! I also collect 100s and 100s of old movies.

OMG ROSE!!--Your link to the film verifies it IS about the Cheyenne!!Between you and Blunderbuss2-- I have learned something about "Panther" and his tribe--This site, with it's outreach of experts and kindred "spirits" is soooo amazing. Thanks very much for adding to the history.
