      Thanks everyone!

oilman54, how do you find so many great items? What's the secret? You're awesome!

thank you! i guess i just get lucky and plus the town i live in was the top advertising sign manufacture in the country until the 40's. I've tried to pick other counties and states but there's just not the number of signs that there are here. Gotta know where to look. if they have a nice car or nice house i don't stop because chances are they don't need the money or don't need to get rid of it. NEVER be afraid to ask.

      Thanks

Sweet! So, you just do it American Picker style? Just knock on the door and ask, huh? What's the reception-- mainly positive? Thanks again, man!

yeah that and i dig in old dumps and find closed down service stations. mostly all positive but every once in a while you get a mad farmer lol. If your friendly to the people they usually treat you the same. I usually talk to them for 5-10 minutes before i ask if they have any old signs

Thanks for the advice! What kind of dumps? Junk yards with old cars? And what about the service stations that are closed down? Do you just take the stuff if it's laying out?

This is good stuff! I'm getting excited!

I go ask farmers if they have an old dump i can dig around in. Most just give the stuff to you but some want 5-10 dollars a sign. if I'm on public hunting ground once owned by the coal company i just take the sign. closed down stations i contact the current owner and they usually have old cases of cans or signs. go to your local scrap yard and leave your phone number i get calls every week from them when someone goes to scrap a sign and i buy it. Get your name out there ask everyone you know and when they find one they will let you know. If you re-sell take the time to find the right buyer. when i sell i sell all at once and my sign guy leaves with a load of signs and i get a pocketful of money. dont waste your time at antique stores theres no money to be made on the stuff there. and HAVE FUN its so exhilarating when you turn a corner and find a sign or oil can.
