I love plastic bangles, especially in the summer. These are some recent finds. The beige one in the front and the orange one seem to be hand-carved. The second beige one just matches the carved one in colour and size, so I added it to my little collection.

    Thanks for looking:)

I never see pretty ones like these in the thrift shops - only clunky, junky ones. :-((

These are gorgeous! White? - rather than beige? I think these are 50's-70's, altho the orange one looks like bakelite. Maybe resin, nice quality - great finds!

Mary, I read on line that "Scrubbing Bubbles" bathroom cleaner can be used to test for Bakelite. So I used it because I couldn't get my hands on Simichrome.
I am not sure if the results are reliable. The two carved bangles both produced a slightly yellow hue but the plain one didn't. Anyway, I didn't trust the results so I just posted all of them as plastic. Have you tried other methods to test for Bakelite?

Hello Gudrun - I've heard some countries don't allow import of simichrome. And 409 or Scrubbing Bubble has a new formula that isn't reliable either. I also try hot water and/or rub and sniff for a chemical ether smell. A clunky bracelet-to- bracelet sound other than a brittle sound (ha ha, this is really hard to detect!) Rare to find white bakelite due to years of oxidation. I know I've seen your orange one listed online, but I think they've called it resin. I'll look again and see if I can share that link for you. A pale yellow result is showing there's oxidation and the bracelet has some age, but is it bakelite?! I'll let you know what I find out.

I know I saw a similar orange bracelet online - so I searched for a few hours last night - no luck - but I bought a few bracelets: "hi, my name is Val and I am addicted to plastic for some strange reason". ha ha ha ....anyway, I also saw a few nice ones like your carved white. The descriptions and prices were all over the place. "resin, acrylic, bakelite, Lucite, old plastic" priced "from $9 to $50". Most of the white ones were around $9-$20 if you're curious. Again, have you done a sound test? Brittle or Clunk? :-)
