looks like Duncan & Miller Glass #58 'Clover' c1905
    2. TallCakes TallCakes, 8 years ago
similar to Duncan & Miller, but this is likely Tiffin also:

Handles are thicker on the tiffin ones. Is there any way I can tell?

I can't find anything on possible original punch sets in the Clover pattern to compare. There's also the Indiana 'Duchess' pattern. Do you have a black light to compare the reaction of the cups to that of the bowl and under-plate?

I'll see if i can get a black light to compare will post pucs when I can!

Ok. I am stupid here what exactly I am I looking for?

EAPG era glass was made using manganese for clarity, which was discontinued for a while at the time of WWI, and other additives were used. This is why EAPG will have a green/yellow glow when viewed with black light in a dark room. Much newer glass and lead crystal will simply reflect the purple color of the black light. This isn't a test of absolute certainty for old glass however, as some newer glass also began to contain manganese I later years. Manganese is also what causes this glass to turn purple when over exposed to UV rays.

Ok. I exposed the cup to a black light and it came out as purple with some green/yellow. Cameta wouldn't focus so I couldn't get a picture.

the green/yellow shows in the thick edges and patterns cuts best when turned in the light; It's really hard to photograph without a SLR where you can control shutter speed and manually focus.

so all pieces had same response to the light?

Yes. All showed purpke with the green yellow outlining it.

ok, that's consistent with old glass; but is there any wear consistent with age... still thinking this is likely Tiffin 'Royal' but not 100% certain.

Ok. Checked for wear. It does show some wear as well as what appears to be sand or some other material in the glass.
