Recent online find: 3 cute 1940's bakelite barrettes. I am known as the crazy bird lady on my street - don't know why - I only have one happy, noisy free-flying parakeet who likes to sit on the window sill and scream (call out?) to passerbys and 2 little energetic finches who are tiny and sweet, so entertaining as they try to get their cage liner paper (only 20 times larger than they) up into their house. Sigh...I am a crazy bird lady.

When I saw this parrot barrette (2"x.5") it was LOVE at first sight. Plus getting 2 other cute bow barettes all for $3 each was a deal to me. This type of clip stays shut in hair. I'll probably wear the parrot as a pin though. Also, the hardware is embedded into the back not glued on. Nice construction.

My guess is the parrot's color was originally white, but the bows might have been a pale peach. Hope you enjoy. They are unusual pieces.

How a proper barrette should look on the back! These are really sweet, and I would definitely wear them. I hate the crap passed off as barrettes these days. Ripped hair and pain.

      Thanks fleafinder for first love!

Thanks Bonnie - I agree. Plus the new barrettes hardware always breaks. I also like bobby pins with a bit of bling or whimsy charm on the end. You have gorgeous hair. Mine? Mostly I pull it up in a bun but I like to use barrettes. I have some nice sterling Navajo haircombs. These are so sweet aren't they?

Thanks for the hair compliment. :-)))) At this time, it's braided and in a bun on the top of my head (cleaning day, you see...)

Nice barrettes. I love looking at this material and trying to find it.
I love animals very much and have had many that live on in my heart. My crazy cat is 15-1/2 years old. I had a pair of finches for several years and Erma got out while cleaning the cage and didn't make it. Max didn't last too long after that and I was devastated. I took him to a taxidermist and had him freeze dried and mounted. I know it's a bit insane but I was in my 20's. I still have him but he is in my old trunk because crazy cat wants to eat him. Oh, the circle of life....

Hi Bill - so oldebodie is a Caucasian Ovcharka? It's great to have a dog protector. You can call me Mary or Val. I love dogs and cats, raised on a farm with those and cattle, pigs and chickens. But my world now is reduced to a space only fit for a few birds, a tiny apt. .

Onegoodfind - it isn't crazy that you taxidermied your little friend. Beatrice Potter saved all her pets. Most of them to skeleton stage for study. I wanted to do that with my first parakeet Valentino97 - but it was just too weird for me back then. I didn't find a taxidermist and my farmer nephews live 1500 miles away to help...

I like your story of Erma and Max and your crazy cat too! My finches aren't allowed out. When I first got them -yes, but they are too tiny and I was worried they might get behind heavy furniture in tiny space. So, they're just caged finches
