    Hello fellow collectors!!

While out treasure hunting in downtown Louisville today, we happened across this lovely old Abercrombie & Fitch wicker picnic basket at an amazing price!

The willow wicker basket is 15" tall, 18" wide and 13" front to back. It has a leather wrapped handle, leather securing straps and a leather tag that has the Abercrombie & Fitch logo embossed into it. It once had the Abercrombie & Fitch name printed in gold lettering on the tag, but all that's left are traces of the gold lettering.

It's a complete service for four. Instead of having the typical melamine, or plastic, dinnerware, this one has Ironstone Broadhurst Staffordshire dinnerware (dinner plates, salad plates, bowls, cups, saucers and 3 glass tumblers with an English fox hunt scene on them). 18/10 stainless flatware, combination corkscrew/can opener, aluminum storage container, salt/pepper shakers and a stainless steel vacuum sealed thermos bottle. It had 4 glass tumblers, but I accidentally broke one while taking everything out of it when we got home:(

It even comes complete with cloth napkins and tablecloth that stores inside the lid. The basket has separate compartments in the bottom for each of the coffee cups and tumblers. This picnic basket would be from the 1950's or older.

Thanks for stopping to have a look at my Abercrombie & Fitch picnic basket!

    Scott

This is so cool Scott! At first sight, I expected to see a cobra come dancing out. LOL
If and when you use it, watch out for Yogi... I hear he likes these :-)

      Thomas,
Thanks friend!! You very well could be right about that. I was in a very high end antique mall in Louisville, so I wouldn't doubt it that this is from the 1950's. Thanks again!!!!

      Rick,
LOL!! As long as we have the forest ranger around, we won't need to worry about Yogi and BooBoo:) Thanks for the fun comment and for dropping in.

      Bonnie,
Thank you!! We thought so as well. We've seen lots of picnic baskets over the years, but none like this. It's a fairly large one as well!!

This is lovely Scott, and not a piece of plastic or paper towel in sight......how amazing!! And as Bonnie said "very classy"!!

      Judy,
Thank you! We were amazed that everything in it, including the basket, was made in England except for the flatware that was made in Austria. A very well made and classy set for sure.

great basket for a picnic during the fall season!
    15. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
      fleafinder,
Yep, it will definitely come in very handy for Fall picnic. We live about 10 minutes from a 14,000 acre national arboretum (Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest) that we visit quite often. It's a wonderful place to picnic and hike.
Thanks for the love, the comment and for stopping by. Always appreciated!!

wow must be really magnificent...would definitely google it. do most the forest turn red/yellow as well during the fall or is the evergreen type of forest?
    17. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
      fleafinder,
The forest does turn orange, red and yellow in Autumn. There are evergreens there, but mostly deciduous trees that change color and drop their leaves in Autumn. You'll have to Google it and check it out. When you're ever stateside you'll have to visit this incredible forest!

That is quite the fancy picinic basket. You will need wine and cheese.

      fortapache,
Thanks!! I'm well covered on the wine and cheese for now. Thanks for the comment, the appreciation and for dropping in. Always appreciated!!

This is a wonderful picnic basket, Scott! I can see it on a beach blanket on Carmel Beach (California)! [;>)
    21. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
      NevadaBlades,
I can envision that as well, but we'll have to settle for Bernheim Forest and Arboretum for now:) Thanks friend for the comment, the appreciation and for stopping by. Always greatly appreciated!!!
