Every once in a while I come across an exceptional trunk that goes into my private collection (which usually means another has to go!) -- well decision time once again. This is a beautiful example of a Romadka high end trunk. Most of the hardware (but not all) is a unique Romadka brothers design intended to wow their clients -- in my opinion they have succeeded -- hats off to these fine craftmen of their day. Now I will have to work on making a tray for the interior to match and I may have to repaint the exterior tin. The leaves on the front and side were originally painted gold for effect.

I had to clean up all the hardware and refinish the slats.... still debating a repaint on the body and maybe a silverleaf paint on the hardware. Thanks FatBoy64...

Trunkman, another fine trunk for your collection. I love the Romadka hardware also, especially their leaf hardware and their own design of embossed metal for the edges. You mention the gold painted hardware on the front and sides, but I've never seen any done that way on original Romadka's that I've had or seen. I don't think Romadka painted them that way and that originally they were tinned for the silver finish. Or possibly they had some old varnish on them that made them look gold? Anyway, I think they look best with the silver or steel look. Great trunk!

That is an especially nice inside. Whenever I see a trunk I always want to open it up and see what is inside and rarely see something this nice.

Thanks TrunkerMarvin, and fortapache for the comments. Marvin you may be right about the gold paint being a later addition -- it would have made the trunk look "gody" -- certainly looks better in silver.

What an incredible piece Trunkman! The detail is over-the-top! I can relate to your 1 in 1 out philosophy... I've been using that for a while now. I just ordered a new curio, so I can start keeping some of my old pieces... For now! LOL

randallbarbera thanks so much for the comment -- I try my best with the restores... but I keep it at the hobby level to keep it fun for myself.
