    (724 items)

Originally this necklace would have been strung on cotton, knotted between each bead with at least a rectangle figural bead and a large 1.5" pendant at the end. Probably about 30 or more inches. It was taken apart over the years but I have 102 round beads and these 2 beautiful mummies.

I am upset also to admit I didn't know the tragic history of the brothers before I posted this: Brothers Max and Norbert Neiger made wonderful jewelry with figural glass beads in Gablonz, Czechoslovakia from 1905-1930's. Besides Egyptian they were inspired by Asian and Indian motifs. In 1939 they escaped to Bohemia, continued to work and were arrested in Prague and killed at Auschwitz in 1942.

They are most famous for 1920's-30's Egyptian revival necklaces in a wide range of colors - white, red, dark and light blue and green. If the flapper-length necklace is original it is worth a lot. I have been watching them online for years and still haven't been able to buy one.

When I have the right beads for my restoration, I will think of them while I try to bring these beads back to their original splendor.

Interesting history valentino, I see their names come up often when searching the web. Thanks for sharing, that is the beauty of CW getting to know the history of these people.

Thank you Jean - same here, but I didn't know they had been killed. I think my rose beads can also be attributed to them. http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/208417-2-more-restrung-glass-necklaces-from-my?in=user

Thank you Elisabeth - someday I'll get the large pendant and then re-string it (knot by knot - argh!)

After seeing your post, I searched for this kind of jewelry. OMG, there are so beautiful pieces out there - but also rather pricy!

Yes, I never see them online for less than $100. I'm sure I'll find a necklace someday, hopefully the central pendant to match my green mummies sooner or later :-)

Thanks Roy and Bijou - these beads from Neiger are very special. I hope someone will write the history of the Neigers and Goblanz bead industry.

Thank you CW friends for loves!
