Neat picture. My image enhancement efforts were fruitless, so all I can do is guess: "H. J. Eldrer" ... is that a box of candies or something?

Great shot of the Cliff House-- dates somwhere between 1896 and 1907, the lifespan for that version of the house.
Maybe the box says the boy's name. H.J. something and an address?
This is a great photo. I love the kids expression and the outfit.
