Church Bazaar Find: Pretty vintage sterling brooch. I am not sure but the carving appear to be of a bird. At one point, the brooch might have looked golden but there is almost nothing of the gold-wash left.

The brooch is in perfect shaped. The picture shows what looks like cracks but this are lines in the jade.

    Thanks for looking:)

Thanks, kyratango. I am amazed by the amount of work that went into making this brooch!

      How lovely Freiheit!
The back is amazing isn't it! Would this be an older piece made for export???

I think you're right about the bird. If you turn the pin 90 degrees so that it stands on its "short" end, you'll see the phoenix with its tail up and the neck curved so it comes up almost to the middle.

TassieDevil, I think it is rather old, maybe around the 1940's or so. I have seen similar ones even older but I am not familiar this kind of jewelry so I wouldn't be able to tell for sure. And yes, the back is rather nice to:)

It is lovely Freiheit.....1940s is what I was thinking too.....only from what I remember reading years ago about Chinese art deco pieces made for export in the 40s..........but I think they had enamel work as don't quote me LOL...

Yes, most of the ones I found on line have enamel. I have not yet found an exact match to mine yet. Hopefully, someone will know than I do about this kind of brooch.
