Back in the 80s I had a chance to see Muddy Waters at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. I snapped some great photos of Muddy and his band, including Pinetop Perkins - the legendary king of Chicago Blues Piano in his own right. Back in 2007, I took my son to see Pinetop & Friends live in a small venue on the occasion of his birthday. I brought along a copy of one of the photos that I snapped of Mr. Perkins back in the 80s. He was kind enough to autograph it for me. I also got the autographs of Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin (who played guitar in Muddy's band back in the day), drummer & harmonica player Willie "Big Eyes" Smith (also performed with Muddy Waters), and also Mookie Brill on the upright bass. Too bad Pinetop joined the celestial band in the heavens a few years ago, but I still have the music & the memories!

I saw Pinetop twice here in Minneapolis at the Dakota Jazz Club. Immense and memorable talent!

Absolutely right rniederman - he was still putting on a good show even in his extreme old age! I'm glad I bought some of the band's CDs that night in 2007.
