A recent surprising ebay purchase for $12: 1940's bakelite mahjong tiles with wood (Czech?) beads. I plan to restring it. The bakelite tiles are 1.25"x3/8", with wonderful bakelite discs and wood beads.
My tiles are all bamboo M-shape with mirror image, marked 8 - known as "bamboos, bams or sticks". I looked online M & 8 "center or middle". Perfect for me because my name is Mary and I'm the middle child of 8! Someone will know more about mahjong and please chime in, I'm not sure why all the tiles are 8.
Just restrung it today - cleaned it all up and deleted some of the wood beads, replaced with wonderful red wood beads. Will probably restring (DANG, why can't I just do it right the first time?) with black elastic cord. The white is ok for now!
I'll say......$12.00! It was meant to be yours.
I seek for one of these!.. Lucky find!!
You know how I feel about my mahjong bracelet from you???????? it is a prized possession. I'm going out to celebrate a friend's birthday tonight, think I'll just have to wear it!
Thanks Bonnie - I plan to take out a few of those big wood beads, leave in the discs - it's 8" - way too loose now. Yes, but not as great a buy as MsCrystal's!
Thanks lentilka - I got lucky with this one because it really is 40's bakelite. Over the years I've bought many tiles (not drilled) that were mainly 60's-80's...will the tiles post for you - still very nice.
Hey sweet petite: Our mahjong tiles are probably 1920's ox bone - circles - and the bamboo backing may have been taken off before they framed the tiles in sterling. I hope you had a great time at the party!
The one I picked up doesn't hold a candle to this beautiful bracelet. I love the beads!
Thanks Ms.CrystalShip - I love these beads too and the use of the M 8 tiles. :)
Thanks friends for loves:
