Is this split diamond barbed wire? my 1996 antique price guide is saying it is worth 150.00 per 18 inches???

    I found a very considerable amount of this barbed wire on my property today while cutting wood. Two strands twisted fairly tight. The barbs are six inches apart and they are flat with four points.... It would look like a diamond if the barbs were not split. The strand in the picture is 18 inches...

      Looks like a Hiram B. Scutt patent, dated June 18, 1878. This wire is called "Scutt's Arrow Plate Sheet Metal Barb" Can't really tell by the pictures, but if it is a split diamond it would be an Oliver which is only the high price if it's a "ribbed" diamond. The Scutt wire is .25 cents.
