Here is a small group of objects by Randy Strong of California. The two taller ones are called flame sculptures because their shape resembles a flame. The largest is 12" tall, and the slightly smaller one is 11" tall. They feature an inner core of colored glass (black and blue respectively) cased in clear crystal. These are decorated with 24K gold leaf inclusions, and on the surface gold leaf was applied while the glass was still hot. I have seen this décor referred to as Orion. The smaller one is a paperweight and is about 2.5" in diameter. Randy Strong is still working in glass today, but only in extremely limited quantities and his prices are beginning to rival Chihuly. I was fortunate to purchase these at reasonable prices. They are all signed "R. Strong" and dated between 1991 & 1997.

I'm like you Ivonne, normally I don't collect paperweights, but I already had the matching sculpture, and I saw the paperweight sitting on the shelf in the shop... and I just couldn't resist. You're right about sculptures... the newer ones by known artists are getting beyond the reach of many. These are still somewhat reasonable in price from what I've seen on ebay, though I haven't looked in a while.
