    trunkman
    (148 items)

Always on the lookout for something different -- and this came up last week. I have seen one similar on a post here last year but it's been removed. The side of it has those black painted ends on the slats similar to what Martin Maier does -- I know he's not the only maker that did this. This is such a Pirate Trunk - X marks the spot -- so unusual. Any additional info on this would be appreciated! (Christmas came early) Haven't had a chance to work on it so this is "as found" condition.

Wow!! Another trunk type that I haven't seen before. Truly fantastic T-man!! It really looks awesome as it sits. The hardware, the very unique design in the pressed tin and that over the top interior, I love everything about it!
Merry Christmas to you and your family and may 2017 be filled with amazing trunk finds for you!!

Glad you like the pic greendog -- big smile -- ! Couldn't get him to fit in properly for some reason...
Yah this one was in a town 6 hours away and my brother-in-law works there and just happened to be available to pick it up for me -- and you can come with any time for a now infamous "trunk run" my friend.

Wow Drill - how did you ever know this! Thanks so much for the link and info and all my best to you all!

These are quite unusual and hard to find, and I was about to give you the patent information of John Duguid of Toledo, OH, but I see Drill beat me to it. Wow, you have to be quick on here! HAHA Super find and I love the complete interior! Very nice embossed metal too. I have a similar Duguid X pattern trunk and mine was leather covered, but it had to be removed and the wood refinished. I've seen a couple with the X only on top, but some had the X pattern on all sides such as the one I found a few years ago. Someday I'll get some pictures of it to post also. I expect these were made from around 1884 to the early 1890's .
      Merry Christmas!

Thanks so much Marvin -- it is just great to get this information on these finds -- I would have had no clue where to even start -- was searching under "trunk with an "x" -- like yah that would have helped - not. Looking forward to seeing the post.
      Merry Christmas!

I don't think there's anymore trunks out there, between a dozen or so of us, we've got them all. were gonna have to start trading trunks among us just to look at something different once in a while, " LOL".

Thanks Briarrose for the enthusiastic response! It started with just a nice one like yours and then, well, I kinda got carried away... a bit... a lot...
The amazing thing has been the discovery of so many different types and styles... still finding new ones! :)
