These 2 postcards are taken from a fold-over postcard set sent to Miss Isobel Peltier, Bourbonnais, IL in April of 1951. The sender was in the Navy because on one of the cards he writes "this is the corner where I catch the bus to my ship". On the first card of the famous now gone -Pike he's written "I was here". The 2nd is a night view of downtown Long Beach. I don't recognize much. These postcards aren't as true as old photographs, but they are pretty. I love the searchlights in the first image.

Happy New Year from LB by the Sea: Val, Cumi and Prince (rogers nelson) Here's toasting health, happiness and great hunting in 2017!

There's a lot of work done on old postcards-- even the type that have colours printed onto them directly. And then you have the master photo, which (in the case of your night-scenes) was given a tint and then touched-up to make it look like it was taken during the night. Often, they had to add clouds in by hand. They make the rest based off the heavily edited master photo and touch-up as needed.

Yes, thank you Spirit - I love the first image - it looks like a painting!

The night scenes can often be more fun than daylight scenes even though both were taken in the day!

This postcard fold-over set is from 1951. There was one on ebay 1944 with similar images - not the same though. The front and back "fold-overs" are linen and the inner postcards are 2-sided paper with images printed in color. Friends if you love specific locale postcards (like my LB!!) the best place to find them is somewhere far away where they were sent to. I rarely find Queen Mary items here in Long Beach. :-)

Happy New Year 2022 Mary, hope you have a wonderful day today. Great postcard, we also have a Long Beach here on Long Island NY but it's a pretty quiet town, has a lovely boardwalk though

Thanks Jenni for your greetings! - I know about Long Beach, NY. It's been on some movies and someday I'll visit it and of course enjoy Long Island. Last night there was quite the party with fireworks outside my building at Shoreline Village. Too many people though, made me a little nervous, not enough masking. Oh well, here's to 2022 and Happy New Year!
