    Carved from one piece of wood, this belonged to my grandmother and is possibly at least 60-100 years old.

      Not carved wood. Made in West Germany.
      Achatit is a non-ceramic material registered trademark of that company made by boiling fine powdered stone with sawdust and a binding agent which is poured into a mold. After cooling the sculpture is polished with achatit stones, hence how the business got its name. It was in business from 1948 until 2004.
