I love my family. They put up with a house full of boxes, glass on every surface available, and only occasionally raise eyebrows when another box turns up in the mail.
They also got me this bowl for Christmas.

My gut tells me this is Japanese but I have no proof of it's country of origin, or it's maker.
The style reminds me of my Tajima bark vases, and it has a similar finish to the base. It could be from another of course.
I really love the way they have designed this with the change of blocky texture on the base to the ripples on the sides.
The colour is the most stunning orange; it absolutely glows!
The clear case sets it off beautifully.

    Diameter: 20cm Height: 14cm

Your family knows you well Karen as this fits in perfectly with all of your other, beautiful Japanese glass! You've pretty much covered it all in your description... the block textured base transitioning to the ripples and that gorgeous orange! Another element of the design which I appreciate, is the artist's choice of contrasting the round bowl with the hexagonal base. This is one of your pieces that is the total package!

Many thanks Rick. I agree it has been a well designed mould, and well made.
I didn't even think about the hexagon to round until you mentioned it - great eye there.

Just simply so curious karen, whats that brown round object beside the chilli. Is it the kiwi fruit?

      A feast for the eyes ! :)

Flea that's a passionfruit. It and the chilli are there not just because they are gorgeous but I also proudly grew them lol!

At first sight I thought it is scandinavian, but when I watched closer ...yes,they differ in the texture and shape a bit.

This is a great piece Karen. The post almost makes it better...Awe!! They are both really sweet. Lucky girl.
IDK about you but I think Rick should write a book (if he hasn't already). Or all of you experts here could collaborate. I'd buy it!! :):)

Ivonne there is some similarity with Scandinavian pieces of the period, and I daresay the Japanese got design cues from there. I don't think the Scandis would have ventured into this intense orange however! Thanks for the love :)

      Thanks Find!
Rick is awesome- so insightful and knowledgeable. I'd buy his book for sure!
