Both brooches are marked ECCO STER. I didn't find much on the net about the company, only it might be Electric Chain Company in Canada, which existed from 1916 until the early 1950s. The brooches were made probably around mid-century.
One of the brooches has its original box with an unused gift card and the Ecco paper label tag.

You mean because "Sterling" is abbreviated? I think that had to do with space. It has to be the same company.

I'm pleased about the box also. It might be bit grotty & rusty, but it is not surprising at its age!!!
