My Merchant Marine father brought this Grundig radio and bar/cabinet in Germany sometime in the 50s.
The doors slide, the wooden door on the right is missing a knob.
The interior is blue quilted material of some sort. There's a light inside.
The glass door has a decal I cannot make out, never could.
These two items mean a lot to me since I saw them everyday of my life growing up in an apartment in New York City.
My mother is 90 and about to move, though I don't know much about the cabinet, I'm going to keep it.
I cannot underestimate their sentimental value. I know a lot about the radio. My mother found someone to put tubes in it and it still works.
But I don't know anything about the cabinet. If anyone has ever seen one of these and can help identify it, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
I had a bar/radio/fireplace made in East Germany so this reminds me of it, The crest looks like ones I have seen !
Thanks, Phil. The more I think about it the more I think I should just let it go. To use it I'd have to replace the knob and figure out how to make the light work.
The trim is also in need of repair.
Do you have any idea what the crest means or do you know its origin? Is it just decorative?

Thanks, roddyq, you're right. So many memories connected to that piece. My mother sounded sad when I told her I didn't have a place for it and that it would probably be expensive to ship--I live in Northern California and she lives in St. Louis.
I've been so conflicted. Your comment and Phil's recognition of it has convinced me to just go ahead and keep it.
