Just had a thought! Maybe a reality check!!!
I, just like most of you, love to collect. Love the great finds in the hunt, for our treasure. Sometimes, maybe pay a little more than we should have, but hopefully, the value will increase with time. For now we have this beautiful thing, treasure, to look at, enjoy, then pass on to a future collector of the past. Maybe we'll make some money, maybe not, but we're Historians, this needs to be saved, from being lost, never was...
Wanted to show and tell, just a little! More than I should, probably, but my wife and I(she'll say it's all me), had a dream to open a store, still do, when we retired, six and a half years ago, now though, collected for most of our, over thirty years of marriage, could see a "pie in the sky", selling our treasures... Family problems, deaths in the family, we're all getting older. Plans have to be put on hold! :^(
We still collect though!!! I mean, "couldn't pass it up", "what a buy", "it will sell easily"...box it up! . . .
We love the things we've got! I love to Show and Tell, and love to learn more about all of our, and your treasured things...THINGS somethings take up a lot of space! Try and be careful how you collect, I'm not...but trying to be smarter, about it!

I suspect most of us here on CW are hoarders like you, albeit many to lesser extent. Well said, collectors are like historians and they are saving items from being lost forever :)
Hey martika, maybe I could join you, and find some of those "lost" treasures, right at home, and save a trip to the thrift, or flea! :^) I do that once in a while, just to keep in touch with them! :^D And the thrill is back! LOL
We sell now and then, on line, but really want to open a store. I like the talk, that you get, when it's person to person, in making the sale, and a sale again! :^)

Yes I was getting like that too ( when I had a full basement ) for stuff. Yes, had to save things, protect them, give them history back but then it gets to be a bit much. When I moved here a couple years ago and had to pack *UP* all these collectibles -- it THEN BECAME STUFF ( except my glass ). I realized I had to downsize my things, my collectibles, my kid things, my childhood stuff -- as you can not keep everything. I would cry to get rid of some things but I think it was cuz after my parents died, I felt the NEED to hold on to everything.
I used to get so much Joy finding the next treasure -- but now I realize these treasures must slowly be gone through. I just HAD too much stuff !! Mind you I have lots of family things, and glass, and things here and lots of things I DO STILL USE HERE.
Anyways, I can relate to your issues. At least you have it in seperate buildings and not in your home.
Have you ever heard that * Collectors * are suppose to have Mental Health issues somewhere or something in their life?
I would still love to dig through your stuff.......LOL

If I can't display it and it isn't 'seasonal' (Holidays) or necessary to put in books (postcards), I typically sell it or donate it as there is no point in having it if I can't even see it.
Also, when you find something and forget you owned it, it's likely time to downsize.
I hear you Bill... lately I've switched to more coins... can store more of them in a smaller space than art glass or pottery! (LOL) ... I tell my daughter that I want all of my stuff to go in my pyramid when the fateful day comes ;-P Actually, I plan to sell most of the stuff before then so she won't have to worry about it when my wife and I are gone... except for some family items and a few of the best pieces.
i understand collecting but not hoarding as you can never enjoy the things that are packed in. old items are mean to be enjoyed! and seen.. open an etsy shop!
It's good to see your comments, and get your love! :^) I guess what I wanted was to stir some thought about all our collections.
The intent of mine being stored in the first place, was to have enough to open a store, but times changed, and what was very collectable, isn't much now. Depression Glass is depressed, Figurines have fallen, and California or 40's and 50's pottery has broke. That's what my generation was buying when we started, and looked like a good investment, for a future Antique store, a little still is, but the majority of what younger collectors want now are smalls, and things that they grew up with, toys, cards, and electronics, some clothing, and shoes. I think that's when I started buying, jewelry, compacts, and a few purses, and the pocket knives, about 5 years ago, when I should have been selling all my collections, but still holding on to the idea that "Things" will always be collected, so I would be safe with what I had stored!
And yes Nicefice, I get that from my sons all the time, both have no interest in all this stuff, pass on the cash...when we die! :^)
